Monte Carlo Historique Rally
The 9th Monte Carlo Historique Rally, run by the Automobile Club de Monaco,
is due to finish in Monte Carlo just after midnight on Wednesday morning,
1st February after 3½ days and nights of gruelling roads and weather.
Nearly 400 entrants of classic cars (the model had to have participated
between 1955 and 1977) started from 5 points: Barcelona, Copenhagen, Monte
Carlo, Reims and Turin and converged on St Etienne for the start of the
serious bit.
Alastair Inglis, our Membership Secretary, has been following the progress
of his daughter, Pippa, the navigating half of an all girl team that started
in Brussels in a Porsche 356 SC lent to her driver, Pat Lambert, and
suffered heater failure en route to Reims.
5 Peugeots also started: #62 - 204 Coupé; #163 - 504 Ti; #168 - 104ZS;
#226 - 404; #304 - 104ZS. There's another 104 taking part: a FSO Syrena 104
from Poland.
The first leg saw Pippa lying at 184, with the 104s trailing and the others
doing quite well. After the 10th leg Pippa & Pat had got into their stride
and clawed their way up to 16th! Two of the Peugeots had retired by this
time (#163 and #226), the 204 was lying 45th, and the 104ZS's lying 51st and
189th. The FSO 104 was 38th!
