Visit LeMans in 2006!
News from CPUK member and magazine printer Norman Burr about the exciting possibility of a bargain trip to the ever popular LeMAns 24 hour race this summer! Norman has this to say.
I am planning a trip to Le Mans in June and would welcome any other CPUK
members who want to join the party.
I have bought three camping spots and three adult full tickets (valid for
the whole week). More tickets can be bought on the day, no problem there,
the limitation is the camping spots, which are always in short supply, so
basically we can take three car loads. At present we have five seats, none
of them in Peugeots I'm afraid as I am currently Pugless for the first time
in a decade. There are two seats in my AC Ace and four in my son's Alfa 75,
plus of course whatever comes with the third car. Yes I know 2+4=6 not 5,
but I plan to motor south on my own after the race, so effectively one seat
is unavailable.
The camping spots are at Beausejour, inside the circuit near the Porsche
Curves. It is not close to the action around the start/finish straight, but
at least there is a shuttle bus operating to get you to and from. This is
not a fancy trip: its a week of cars, noise and beer, although by the
standard of some of the revellers our consumption is positively amateurish.
Accommodation at the circuit is strictly tents, with the occasional shower
if you can be bothered to queue. If you want to stay in a chateau and sit in
the grandstand, youre with the wrong crew!
We travel on the Tuesday 13th June and my son will return on Monday 19th.
Normally we go from Dover, either tunnel or boat, and stay in a cheap hotel
in Calais on Tuesday night and on the Sunday night of the return. No
crossings or hotels booked yet.
As an ACO member, I get a discount and I am happy to sell at cost, this is
not about me making a profit. Tickets cost me 45/person and camping 41 per
car. Anyone who qualifies as a student is advised to buy their ticket in
person on the day (but you must have student ID with you), because the
student discount exceeds anything I can get.
If the spare camping spot is oversubscribed, let me know pronto and I will
try to buy more.
