Celebrating it’s 40th anniversary, over 100,000 visitors are expected to once again enjoy the unusual, extraordinary and unexpected models that will be on display. L'aventure Peugeot's stand is always one of the largest showcasing an excellent display of cars from both the Museum and the affiliated clubs. Also on the stand is a mini version of the museum boutique. Elsewhere there are autojumble stalls, restorers, artists and a wide variety of other marques represented by both manufacturers and owners’ clubs. Advance ticket prices are still at 2013 rates and cost 14 euros if bought online.
This year`s event between 4th and 8th February in the original Hall 1 at the Portes de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris again lived up to all expectations for the writer. The l`Aventure Peugeot Stand featured cars with several very important anniversaries in 2015, 80 years of 402,60 years of 403,50 years of 204, 40 years of 604 and 30 years of 309 and of the 205 T16 winning the WRC for the first time. There were examples of all those cars on the stand plus a Type 163 Commercial vehicle that was displayed “as found” after it had been unearthed after 70 years from behind a wall in a house that was being demolished in France and a most unbelievable unique example of a Henri Crouzier bodied 401 Roadster from the 1930`s that was supplied to the then highest paid female entertainer in the world, Mistinguett and has now been fully restored. Put simply, it is one of the best Peugeot cars that I have ever seen. Away from the Peugeot stand there was the usual eclectic mix of vehicles, bikes, planes, autojumble, paintings, models as well as the Artcurial sale of the 60 odd barn find cars from the Baillon collection of what looked to me mostly scrap cars but what ended up realizing close to £20 million ! What do I know? There were three examples of Bugatti Royale from the French Motor Museum in Mulhouse, several fabulous prototype versions of the Alfa Romeo marque, a brilliant aerodynamic Skoda, a display of Pegaso vehicles, a utterly superb Socema Gregoire and a German Tiger 2 tank from WW2 which was so huge and intimidating that I cannot imagine what it would have been like for the guys trying to fend off attacks from one of them!! All in all a great show and worth the journey to see sights that you will not see under the same roof anywhere else in the world. I am already looking forward to 2016.
