The CPUK National Rally 2012

The 2012 CPUK National Rally was held at Woburn Abbey on the weekend of 8th & 9th September.
The Saturday evening dinner at The Inn at Woburn was a lively affair with 18 members and families sitting down to an excellent meal in our own private dining room – very exclusive! Our Chairman, Ian, took the opportunity to present Cyril Jacob with a Peugeot plaque as a well-deserved 'Thank You' for making our visit to Ireland in August such a success. We awoke to brilliant sunshine on the Sunday morning, and we were able to enjoy one of the hottest days of the summer shaded under the trees and Club gazebos in the Woburn Deer Park. A good range of cars attended, although different from last year, from Janette Horton’s 1925 172R through the whole range from 02 to 08, the newest being Cyril Jacob’s 508 SW. 02 and 03 were represented by only one of each model – where are all these lovely older cars? The 04 Series were better represented than any other range with 104s, 304s and 504s. 205s were plentiful with several unusual versions: Ken Wright’s prize winning 205 XA van, David Chapman’s pristine 205 Junior, and Carl Chapman’s impressive 205 Griffe replica. The rarest car was probably Tim Collins’ 406 coupé. This is one of only four produced in RHD form of the SA series. Karl Jempson seemed surprised when he was awarded the 06 Series cup for his very nicely turned out 306 cabriolet and Rich Jewell was also ‘over the moon’ to win the 07 Series cup, both being against stiff competition. Rich was giving his daughter, Amy, an early introduction to his passion for Peugeots with very her own 107 cabriolet (featured on the front cover of The Peugeotist 166). Mick Huntley was this year’s well deserved winner of the Concours Shield and the John Maguire Trophy for the Car of the Show with his immaculately prepared 405 GLX Estate. It is always pleasing to win against stiff competition, and that was certainly the case in some categories. It would be good to see more for the earlier cars in future. An excellent day, expertly organised by Alison and John Budd and supported by Ian Kirkwood and the Committee. Thanks to them all and to all who came with their cars for us to enjoy.
