CPUK was allocated a 138 sqm stand at this year`s Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Car Show in Hall 8 adjacent to the Peugeot Sport Club which gave Peugeot a highly visible presence with our stands straddling the main isle through the hall. The CPUK stand was again supported by Peugeot UK and we had eight cars on display, including three 205 variants celebrating 30 years since the launch of the model which single handedly secured the future of the brand. On display were: • Keith Herbert`s 1,000,000 mile 504 Saloon • Ian Kirkwood`s 304 SL Estate • John Horton`s 1907 Lion VA • Doug Whiffen`s lovely 205 GRD • Mick Huntley`s award winning immaculate 205 CTi • Ian Kirkwood`s 205 T16 • and a brand new 308 from Peugeot UK The stand was built before we arrived on set up day (Thursday) and with all the cars arriving on time all that was left for us to do was to position the cars on the stand for best effect and fill the display cabinets and the stand with CPUK events stock in readiness for the show. I let the train take the strain from Liverpool on the Friday (which I fully recommend) when the show opened at 10am. Friday was busy and brought members and old friends on their annual pilgrimage to the NEC. We were busy all day with the stand display gaining many positive comments. I was unable to attend on Saturday and “the team” duly stepped in and were completely “battered” all day with extraordinary amounts of visitors to the stand. From the 9am opening time to the 6.30 closing it was very busy indeed and I am happy to report that we gained nine new members (a record for one day) on Saturday alone. Peugeot UK Communications Director, Andrew Didlick, was amongst the thousands of visitors on the stand and was pleased to see so much interest being shown in the new 308! Back on duty on Sunday and buoyed by what had happened on Saturday we were ready for the onslaught. To be fair it was busy but not like on Saturday. Peugeot UK Managing Director Tim Zimmerman visited the stand and was very impressed with what we had achieved thanking us for our work in promoting Marque Peugeot. The show duly closed at 5.30 with the traditional “blowing of horns” of exhibitors’ cars and the “break down” procedure began. The organisers of the NEC have gone through major changes in 2013 and a few people even began to question the very future of this excellent show. In reality, they can be proud of what they delivered to the record 65,000 visitors over the three days. Undoubtedly, the soul of the event is the enthusiasm and passion shown by the Club stands that create a unique atmosphere and explains the reason why this show is placed firmly at the very top of the European classic car events calendar. I would like to thank all the team who helped man the stand over the three days, the stand builder GES, the NEC organisers and of course Peugeot UK ,namely MD Tim Zimmerman, Communications Director Andrew Didlick, and PR guys Laurie Price and Craig Morrow, without whom we would not be able to put together such a great stand. Next year`s stand is already in planning!
